Boeing 747-8
International News:Speculations about the Qatar government gifting a Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet to former US President Donald Trump have created a stir in international politics. Trump is going on a tour of Qatar on May 14, where the official announcement of this aircraft is possible. Although the Qatar government has described it as a "proposal under consideration", the US media and politicians have already given sharp reactions to it.
This aircraft is not only the world's longest passenger aircraft, but its VVIP interior has facilities like gold plated fittings, private suites, meeting rooms and luxury bedrooms. Its price is said to be around $ 400 million (about Rs 3400 crore). Qatar is promoting it as a 'flying palace'.
The Boeing 747-8 is fitted with four GE GEnx-2B67 engines which not only make it powerful but also reduce fuel consumption and pollution. Military grade communication systems, jamming technology and nuclear attack survival features can be added to it in the future. It can also replace Air Force One.
The controversy over this gift has deepened in American politics. Democratic leaders attacked Trump and said that this gift reflects the conflict between his business interests and the dignity of government office. Senate leader Chuck Schumer mocked Trump's 'America First' slogan and called it 'Privilege First'.
According to the White House, this plane will be handed over to Trump only when he gets all the security clearances, which may take time. The plane will be transferred to Trump's presidential library after his term ends, although he can keep it for personal use after that.
